Ministry History

Good News for Africa began with the coming of two American missionaries, John McPhaill and his twin brother Jesse, to Kampala, Uganda, in June of 2019. They took an opportunity to come and work with a newer Baptist missionary intending to start a church in Kampala. The pastor and church they were members of in America held a farewell party for them, blessed them, and prayed for them corporately.

Shortly after arriving in Uganda, the missionary they intended to work with suddenly and unexpectedly decided to give up on ministry in Africa. After which, John and Jesse served in an established independent Baptist church in the city of Kampala to work with. After a little over 2 years working there as volunteers, they were called to start their own church, and the pastor and church prayed for them and blessed them as they left.

At about the beginning of 2022, John and Jesse formally began Bible Baptist Church, an independent Baptist church, in Kampala, Uganda. The church was greatly blessed in spiritual quality and quantity as the firstfruits of their ministry, and continues strong to this day. At the start of 2025, in order to expand the gospel further across Africa, John independently began Good News for Africa.
